Shootout with Authorities in Northern Mexico Leaves 11 Dead, Reports Reuters

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – A confrontation between Mexican authorities and an alleged criminal group in the northern state of Nuevo Leon resulted in the deaths of 11 armed attackers, according to the state government on Wednesday evening.

Earlier that day, the assailants arrived at the local police station in the small municipality of General Teran, located approximately 100 km southeast of Monterrey, the state’s industrial hub, and opened fire on the building.

Officials believe the suspects were affiliated with a criminal organization that operates from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, on the Texas border. The state security minister did not disclose the group’s identity, but experts in security suggest the presence of the Northeast Cartel in the region.

Following the shooting, state police, the national guard, and military forces initiated a pursuit of the attackers. They apprehended a 30-year-old man identified only as Alejandro “N,” in accordance with national regulations regarding accused individuals, who was found in camouflage clothing and tactical gear, armed with a long gun.

The search continued after the arrest, leading authorities to a convoy of approximately eight trucks filled with armed men along a highway east of Monterrey. A shootout ensued at the beginning of the chase, resulting in the deaths of 11 criminals. Reportedly, no security personnel were injured during the encounter.

Authorities subsequently confiscated six pickup trucks, indicating that two vehicles managed to flee the scene.
