Magnitude 5.7 Earthquake Hits Pahala, Hawaii

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake occurred in the small town of Pahala on the Big Island of Hawaii on Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The quake’s magnitude was later adjusted from an initial reading of 6.3, and it struck at a depth of 22.9 miles (36.85 km).

The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center reported that no tsunami is anticipated as a result of the earthquake, although some areas may have experienced strong shaking.

A crowd-sourced map from the USGS indicated that residents across the island felt weak to light shaking.
