Iran Urges UN to Avert Further Escalation of Middle East Tensions, Reports Reuters
DUBAI (Reuters) – Iran’s foreign ministry has urged the United Nations Security Council to take decisive action to prevent threats to regional peace and security following the launch of missiles targeting Israel on Tuesday.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that the missile attack was a response to recent Israeli operations, which included the killings of militant leaders and military actions in Gaza and Lebanon. Notably, the leader of Lebanese Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, and a deputy commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Abbas Nilforoushan, were killed in Beirut last week.
In a statement regarding the missile strike on Israel, the foreign ministry emphasized that the military operation was conducted in accordance with international law and the right to self-defense, asserting that the targets were exclusively military and security installations.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian also took to social media to assert that the actions were taken to protect Iranian interests and citizens, clarifying that the country is not seeking war but is prepared to defend itself against any threats.
