Teamsters Conclude Strike at BorgWarner’s New York Plant Following Member Contract Approval
Union workers represented by the Teamsters at BorgWarner’s New York state facility have ratified a four-year contract, effectively ending a two-week strike, as confirmed by both parties on Tuesday.
The new agreement includes a 21% wage increase over its duration, enhanced medical and vacation benefits, and a $5,500 ratification bonus for more than 700 employees at the company’s Lansing campus near Ithaca.
“BorgWarner and Teamster Local 317 collaborated closely on this contract, which was ratified on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Employees who were on strike returned to work for the third shift on Sunday, September 22, 2024,” the company announced.
Teamsters union members at BorgWarner voted to approve the contract following a strike that began on September 9.
“We weren’t asking for the moon, just a piece of the pie. This new contract is exactly what we were fighting for,” stated Lane Yon, a member of Teamsters Local 317 and chairperson of the strike committee.
BorgWarner employs over 1,300 individuals at the plant, which produces automotive chain systems for engine timing and power transmission.
