UK Claims Its Fighter Jets Helped Prevent Further Escalation in the Middle East, According to Reuters
LONDON (Reuters) – The UK announced that two of its fighter jets and an aerial refueling tanker participated on Tuesday in efforts aimed at curbing further escalations in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. However, it was clarified that the jets did not engage any targets during this mission.
According to a statement from Britain’s Ministry of Defence, “Two Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets and a Voyager air-to-air refueling tanker played their part in attempts to prevent further escalation in the Middle East, demonstrating the UK’s unwavering commitment to Israel’s security.”
The statement emphasized that given the circumstances of the situation, the aircraft did not engage in combat, but they contributed significantly to broader deterrence efforts aimed at avoiding escalations.
In a separate development, Iran launched a series of ballistic missiles at Israel in response to Israel’s strikes against Hezbollah, its ally in Lebanon. In light of these developments, Israel has pledged a “painful response” to its adversaries.
When questioned about Britain’s readiness to employ military support for Israel, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer affirmed on Tuesday that Israel has the right to defend itself.
