Teenager Rescued Two Days After Istanbul Building Collapse
A teenage boy was rescued from the debris of an eight-storey building in Istanbul on Friday, nearly 48 hours after the structure collapsed. Tragically, the death toll has risen to 14, with an additional 11 individuals still unaccounted for, according to Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu.
The residential building was located in the Kartal district on the Asian side of the city and collapsed on Wednesday. While 14 apartments were officially recorded at the site, officials revealed that the top three floors of the building had been constructed illegally. Additionally, an unlicensed textile workshop was operating at the entrance.
As recovery efforts continued, more bodies were recovered from the rubble on Friday, leading to the increase in fatalities. In a heartwarming moment, a 16-year-old boy was rescued from beneath the debris early on Friday morning, captured on footage from the scene.
In response to safety concerns, seven nearby buildings were evacuated on Thursday. Meanwhile, authorities in Istanbul have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
