Tehran Claims G7 Statement on Iran’s Missile Attack on Israel is ‘Biased’ – Reuters
DUBAI (Reuters) – Iran has characterized the Group of Seven (G7) condemnation of its recent missile attack on Israel as "biased and irresponsible," according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, who made the comments on Thursday.
The Iranian military launched over 180 missiles at Israel on Tuesday, describing the action as retaliation for the deaths of militant leaders and perceived aggressions in Gaza and Lebanon. Among those killed in the recent conflict was Abbas Nilforoushan, a deputy commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, who died in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut that also targeted Hassan Nasrallah, the head of the Iran-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah.
On Wednesday, G7 leaders expressed "strong concern" regarding the escalating crisis in the Middle East, condemning Tehran’s missile assaults while emphasizing that a diplomatic resolution remains an essential objective to prevent wider regional conflict.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry asserted that the G7 nations, particularly the United States, bear significant responsibility for fostering insecurity and instability in West Asia due to their military support, financial aid, and political backing of Israel.
Additionally, the Iranian ministry announced the summoning of the German and Austrian ambassadors after both nations had called in Iranian representatives to denounce the missile attack on Israel.
The ministry remarked, "If European nations had acted decisively and effectively to halt financial and military assistance, they could have curtailed the violence perpetrated by the Zionist regime (Israel) by now, preventing these tragedies from unfolding."
