Venezuela Arrests Fourth U.S. Citizen This Month, According to Interior Minister
Venezuela has detained a fourth American citizen this month, according to Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello, who did not disclose the individual’s identity. The detention occurred after the American was reportedly caught taking photographs of military units, power plants, and government facilities.
During a session of the National Assembly, broadcast on state television, Cabello stated, “Another citizen of North American origin was captured. An American we had been monitoring was apprehended here in Caracas while taking pictures of electrical installations, oil facilities, and military units.”
Additionally, Spain has sought information from Venezuela regarding the arrest of two Spaniards, three U.S. citizens, and a Czech national, following reports that they were detained for allegedly attempting to destabilize the country.
These arrests coincide with the Venezuelan government recalling its ambassador to Spain and summoning the Spanish ambassador to the foreign ministry, amid rising diplomatic tensions following a disputed presidential election in Venezuela. Cabello asserted, “Rest assured that this gentleman is part of the plan against Venezuela.”
