USTR Seeks Comments on Tariff Increases for Chinese Polysilicon, Wafers, and Tungsten, According to Reuters

The U.S. Trade Representative’s office announced on Thursday that it will begin accepting public comments on Monday regarding proposed tariff increases on Chinese polysilicon, silicon wafers, and tungsten products.

These proposed tariff hikes were included in the Biden administration’s recent final determination concerning “Section 301” tariffs on various Chinese imports such as electric vehicles, batteries, steel, semiconductors, and solar cells.

Plans to implement these increases include a 100% duty on Chinese electric vehicles set to take effect on September 27, along with additional tariffs on five new product categories. This includes a 50% duty on polysilicon used in solar cells and silicon wafers utilized in semiconductor production, as well as 25% duties on several processed tungsten categories, which encompass unwrought tungsten and various forms such as bars, plates, rods, sheets, and foil.

According to a notice in the Federal Register, the window for public comments will open on Monday and will close on October 22.
