Polkadot Hackathon Set for Bangkok with $315,000 in Prizes
The Hackathon 2024 is set to launch its Bangkok edition, featuring an impressive prize pool of $315,000 aimed at attracting new talent to the Polkadot ecosystem and bolstering the overall Web3 industry.
Following the successful Singapore event in September, which saw 25 teams emerge from a competitive field of 279 participants, attention now shifts to the Thai capital. Here, Polkadot developers will showcase their innovative blockchain projects.
Organized by OneBlock+, the Bangkok leg of the hackathon is scheduled for November 16, with registrations and project submissions closing on October 23.
Developers from around the world are anticipated to take part, with competition categories including infrastructure, smart contracts, artificial intelligence, and tailored blockchain solutions. The event will culminate in a Demo Day on November 16, featuring a diverse array of sponsors, including Vara Network, CESS Network, and Bifrost, who will present bounty challenges to encourage participant engagement. These challenges will target areas such as GameFi, decentralized applications, and novel applications of blockchain technology.
The hackathon’s agenda includes mentorship sessions, project evaluations, and a live demonstration day in Bangkok. Teams will present their projects to a panel of judges, with winners to be revealed later in the evening.
The 2024 Polkadot Hackathon will specifically include a category for developing blockchain solutions utilizing Polkadot’s SDK. Participants will be tasked with creating custom blockchains that are capable of connecting to the Kusama Relay Chain in the future.
Potential projects may encompass the development of parachains, privacy-oriented chains, decentralized storage solutions, DAO chains, gaming blockchains, or decentralized identity solutions (DID).
Alongside this primary category, the hackathon will offer three additional tracks, with a total prize pool of $315,000. Each track will award first, second, and third places with prizes of $40,000, $20,000, and $10,000, respectively.
Despite facing market challenges, developer engagement within the Polkadot ecosystem continues to thrive. Current statistics reveal that the network hosts 29,917 repositories, with weekly contributions surpassing 5,500. Approximately 900 developers contribute weekly, sustaining the ecosystem’s dynamic growth.
