Saudi Crown Prince Hosts Iran Foreign Minister in Riyadh, According to Saudi Agency – Reuters
Cairo – Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held a meeting in Riyadh on Wednesday to discuss recent developments in the region, according to the Saudi state news agency.
Saudi Arabia, the leading oil exporter, has seen a political thaw with Tehran in recent years, which has contributed to reduced regional tensions, although their relationship remains complex.
An Iranian official noted that Araqchi’s visit would address bilateral matters and efforts to establish a ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza. He is also scheduled to visit Qatar later in the day.
The Middle East is currently tense as nations await Israel’s reaction to a missile strike from Iran, which was executed in response to Israel’s aggressive actions against Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon, amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Earlier this week, Tehran warned Gulf Arab states that it would be “unacceptable” for them to permit the use of their airspace or military bases against Iran, signaling that such actions would provoke a response.
