Rep. Tom Emmer Sponsors Amendment to Limit SEC’s Oversight of Cryptocurrency
United States Representative Tom Emmer, the Majority Whip of the U.S. House of Representatives, has previously expressed concerns regarding the actions of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the cryptocurrency sector. On September 8, he sponsored an amendment to appropriations intended to limit the SEC’s financial resources for digital asset enforcement.
In his statement, Emmer criticized SEC Chair Gary Gensler, alleging that he has exceeded his authority, which is adversely impacting the American public. Emmer called on Congress to employ its available tools and proper procedures to prevent any potential misuse of taxpayer funds by Gensler and the SEC.
