UAW Members at Ford’s River Rouge Tool and Die Unit Set Strike Deadline, Reports Reuters
The United Auto Workers (UAW) union announced on Wednesday that it has established a strike deadline for Ford’s tool and die unit located within the River Rouge Complex due to unresolved local contract issues.
The Rouge Complex employs around 6,000 individuals, with over 500 working in the tool and die unit, as stated by a union representative. The UAW indicated that if the local contract issues are not settled by September 26, a strike will commence. Key concerns in the ongoing negotiations include job security, wage parity, and work rules.
In response, Ford expressed its commitment to resolving these issues, stating, “We have been at the table problem-solving. Negotiations continue and we look forward to reaching an agreement with UAW Local 600 at Dearborn Tool & Die.”
Additionally, UAW President Shawn Fain mentioned that the union intends to initiate strike authorization votes at one or more of Stellantis’s local chapters in the near future.
