Russian Strike on Kharkiv Apartment Block Injures 21, Reports Reuters
Russian forces attacked a multi-storey apartment building in Ukraine’s second-largest city, Kharkiv, on Saturday evening, injuring 21 people and leading to the evacuation of several residents, according to Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
Located just 30 kilometers from the Russian border, Kharkiv has frequently been targeted by Moscow since the onset of the invasion in February 2022. Terekhov reported that a guided bomb was employed in the strike, resulting in the evacuation of 60 residents. Among the injured were an 8-year-old child and two teenagers aged 17.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned the attack, reiterating his appeal for increased military support from Western allies to better defend against Russian assaults. He emphasized, “Ukraine needs full long-range capabilities, and we are working to convince our partners of this.”
In a separate incident further south, a Russian drone strike resulted in the deaths of two individuals in the city of Nikopol, as reported by the regional governor. In Kurakhove, an eastern town central to Russia’s ongoing advance in the Donetsk region, one person was killed due to Russian artillery fire, according to local prosecutors.
In addition, local authorities in the Sumy region reported that Russian aircraft had targeted energy infrastructure in the town of Shostka. Sumy has frequently been under attack and is situated across from Russia’s southern Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces had launched an incursion the previous month.
