Malaysia Government Not Planning to Reintroduce GST, According to Report by Reuters
KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian government has clarified that there are no plans to reintroduce a goods and services tax (GST) as an alternative to removing subsidies for RON95 petrol, according to a report from the state news agency.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil stated, “No, there were never discussions” regarding the reimplementation of the GST.
Recently, reports suggested that the government was considering the return of a broad-based consumption tax to improve its financial standing instead of cutting subsidies for RON95 petrol.
