IMF Director Advocates for Financial Inclusion Through Digitalization
During her opening address at the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) seminar on financial inclusion in Marrakesh, Morocco, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva emphasized that digitalization is “the most important way” to enhance financial inclusion.
Georgieva stated, “It is digital that moves help to people, investment, and the capacity of the economy to accelerate,” referencing the digital cash transfers implemented in Togo during the COVID-19 pandemic. She called for comprehensive national strategies aimed at promoting financial inclusion while also cautioning the audience about the financial stability risks associated with increased digitalization.
