Harris at 48%, Trump at 47%: CNN Survey Results

The presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump is proving to be highly competitive, with a recent poll indicating that both candidates are receiving nearly equal support from likely voters. According to the poll, Harris has the backing of 48% of respondents, while Trump closely follows with 47%.

Other candidates, such as Libertarian Chase Oliver and Green Party’s Jill Stein, attract minimal support among voters. The poll suggests that Harris’s appeal stems from her personal charisma, whereas Trump’s support is anchored in his strong economic performance and a dedicated voter base.

Notably, 72% of Trump’s supporters are voting for him because of their preference for him, rather than in opposition to Harris. In contrast, 60% of Harris’s supporters are primarily backing her rather than voting against Trump.

Among independent voters, Harris holds a slight advantage over Trump, leading by 4 points. There is also a noted gender gap, with independent women more inclined to support Harris and independent men leaning toward Trump. Additionally, Harris appears to lead among younger voters and within Black and Latino communities.

The poll also sheds light on the candidates’ strengths in various policy areas. Voters tend to trust Trump more on issues such as the economy, immigration, and foreign policy. Meanwhile, Harris is perceived as stronger on issues like abortion rights.

Furthermore, the poll indicates that 41% of voters view the economy as the most critical issue, with inflation being the foremost concern. It emphasizes that voters who prioritize economic issues, regardless of their presidential preference, are significantly focused on inflation.
