US Treasury Sanctions Gaza-Based Crypto Operator Allegedly Linked to Hamas
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States Department of the Treasury has imposed sanctions on a cryptocurrency operator believed to have ties to the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
In an announcement dated October 18, OFAC indicated that the sanctions targeted Hamas operatives and their financial facilitators in light of the group’s recent attack on Israel. Included in the list of specially designated nationals was a virtual currency exchange based in Gaza, along with its operator, which was identified by a specific Bitcoin wallet address.
