Apple Acquires Israel’s PrimeSense in $345 Million Deal

Apple has acquired PrimeSense, an Israeli company specializing in 3D motion-tracking technology, in a deal valued at $345 million, according to reports from a business news outlet.

PrimeSense is known for creating the hardware design and chip that powered the original Xbox 360 Kinect for Microsoft. The company produces 3D sensing products that are utilized across various industries, including consumer electronics, automotive, and healthcare, with over 24 million sensors installed in devices around the globe.

The acquisition comes amid speculation that PrimeSense’s motion control technology might be integrated into Apple TV, which is designed for streaming digital content to televisions.

PrimeSense has previously raised $85 million from a variety of venture capital funds in both Israel and the U.S., including renowned investors.

An official announcement regarding the acquisition is anticipated from both companies within the next two weeks. A representative from PrimeSense emphasized the company’s focus on developing 3D sensing technology for a broad range of applications, including interactive living rooms and mobile devices, while refraining from commenting on partnerships or rumors regarding the acquisition.
