Ukraine Concerned About Reports of Iranian Ballistic Missiles to Russia, According to Reuters
KYIV (Reuters) – On Saturday, Ukraine’s foreign ministry expressed serious concerns regarding reports of a possible transfer of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia.
In an emailed statement to reporters, the ministry indicated that the increasing military collaboration between Tehran and Moscow poses a threat to Ukraine, Europe, and the Middle East. It urged the international community to amplify pressure on both Iran and Russia.
Reports from various media outlets suggested that Iran had sent short-range ballistic missiles to Russia, citing unnamed sources. Additionally, past reports indicated that Russia expected the delivery of hundreds of Fath-360 close-range ballistic missiles from Iran. It was also mentioned that Russian military personnel were undergoing training in Iran on satellite-guided weapons for use in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
On the same day, the United States, a crucial ally of Ukraine, also expressed alarm about the potential missile transfer. White House National Security Council spokesperson Sean Savett stated, "Any transfer of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia would represent a dramatic escalation in Iran’s support for Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine."
Iran’s mission to the United Nations conveyed on Friday that its stance on the Ukraine conflict remains unchanged. They stated, "Iran considers the provision of military assistance to conflicting parties—leading to increased casualties, destruction of infrastructure, and a hindrance to ceasefire negotiations—to be inhumane."
Furthermore, Iran emphasized that not only does it refrain from such actions, but it also urges other nations to stop supplying weapons to those involved in the conflict.
