Youngest US Soldier Killed in Jordan Drone Attack Was 23, Reports Reuters

U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers Identified Following Drone Attack in Jordan

The U.S. military announced the identities of three Army Reserve soldiers who lost their lives in a drone attack carried out by Iran-backed militants in Jordan on Sunday. The youngest among them was just 23 years old.

The victims are:

  • Sergeant William Jerome Rivers, 46, from Carrollton, Georgia
  • Specialist Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, from Waycross, Georgia
  • Specialist Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, from Savannah, Georgia

Lieutenant General Jody Daniels, chief of the Army Reserve, expressed condolences, stating, "On behalf of the Army Reserve, I share in the sorrow felt by their friends, family, and loved ones." He added, "Their service and sacrifice will not be forgotten, and we are committed to supporting those left behind in the wake of this tragedy."

The drone strike, which occurred early Sunday morning, also resulted in injuries to over 40 other troops when the drone targeted housing units. This incident marked the first deadly attack on U.S. forces since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict in October and signifies a significant intensification of tensions in the Middle East.

The U.S. authorities are currently investigating why the approximately 350 troops stationed at the base in Jordan, known as Tower 22, were unable to intercept the drone. Two anonymous officials indicated that a U.S. drone was approaching the base at the same time the attacking drone was inbound. They noted that the height at which the attack drone was flying may have contributed to its evasion of base defenses.
