Khan Younis Under Pressure from Israeli Military Offensive
JERUSALEM – The Israeli military announced on Monday its continued efforts to apply pressure on Khan Younis, a city in the southern Gaza Strip that has been a central focus of its offensive in recent weeks. The military claims to have killed over 2,000 Palestinian militants in the area.
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the military, stated that Israeli forces have succeeded in dismantling two of four Hamas battalions operating in the densely populated city. These battalions utilized both above-ground positions and an extensive network of underground tunnels.
Hagari emphasized, "We are continuing the attack in the area of Khan Younis. We have more operational missions to dismantle the military frameworks of the remaining Hamas battalions." He mentioned that throughout Khan Younis, Israeli forces have eliminated more than 2,000 militants, both above and below ground, while also destroying significant underground infrastructure that included facilities for holding hostages, command centers, weapons production sites, and intelligence materials.
In addition, Hagari noted that over the past week, more than 300 individuals suspected of being militants were detained for questioning in the area.
It should be noted that the figures provided by the military have not been independently verified.
