Elon Musk Introduces $1 Subscription Fee for New X Users in New Zealand and the Philippines, Reports Cointelegraph

X, formerly known as Twitter, is experimenting with a new signup model that requires new users to either pay for a verified enterprise account, subscribe to a premium service, or pay a nominal annual fee of $1 to verify they are not bots. This trial, which started on October 17, is currently limited to new users in New Zealand and the Philippines.

The initiative, referred to as “Not A Bot,” aims to reduce bot activity within the platform. According to information from X’s help center, participants in this trial will need to verify both their phone numbers and payment methods.
