U.S. Reports Air Strike Kills 24 Militants in Somalia, According to Reuters

NAIROBI (Reuters) – On Thursday, the U.S. military announced that it had eliminated 24 militants in an air strike on Wednesday near Shebeeley, located in central Somalia.

According to a statement from Africa Command (Africom), there were no indications that any civilians were killed or injured during the air strike, which targeted the Hiran region.

This attack follows closely on the heels of a previous strike less than two weeks prior, which resulted in the deaths of 52 militants who had launched an assault on a Somali military base earlier that same day.

Al Shabaab continues to maintain a significant presence in various areas of southern and central Somalia. The U.S. military has increased the frequency of air strikes over the past year to support the U.N.-backed government, which has been engaged in a long-standing battle against the Shabaab insurgency.
