Harvey Weinstein Undergoes Emergency Heart Surgery, Reports Reuters
Harvey Weinstein, the former Hollywood producer, was transferred to a hospital from a New York City prison and underwent heart surgery, according to statements from his representatives. The 72-year-old is scheduled to appear in court this week as prosecutors work to obtain a new indictment against him related to sex crimes.
His spokespeople confirmed he was taken to Bellevue Hospital due to various medical issues. They shared that despite having undergone a heart procedure, they did not disclose further details regarding his condition.
Weinstein’s health has been a concern; he suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, fluid in his heart and lungs, and had recently battled COVID-19 and double pneumonia. In February 2020, he was convicted on rape charges, but this conviction was overturned in April by the New York Court of Appeals, which ruled that he did not receive a fair trial due to inappropriate testimony from accusers not formally charged in the case. Weinstein has consistently denied any non-consensual encounters.
