Taiwan’s Second-Quarter GDP Expected to Return to Growth for the First Time Since 2015 – Reuters

TAIPEI (Reuters) – Taiwan’s economy is projected to have experienced year-on-year growth in the second quarter, following three consecutive quarters of decline. This is attributed to a slowing drop in exports and an uptick in investment, according to a Reuters poll conducted on Tuesday.

The median forecast from 16 analysts surveyed indicated an expected growth of 0.56 percent compared to the same period last year, reversing the 0.68 percent decline noted in the first quarter. This marks the first year-on-year expansion since the second quarter of 2015.

The economy had contracted by 0.80 percent and 0.89 percent in the third and fourth quarters of the previous year, respectively, based on figures from the statistics agency.

Preliminary data will be announced in a statement with limited commentary on Friday, while revised figures, containing more detailed analysis and forward-looking outlooks, are set to be released two to three weeks afterward.
