Biden to Announce Actions to Expedite Support for Ukraine on Thursday, Reports Reuters

NEW YORK (Reuters) – The United States is set to unveil a new initiative on Thursday aimed at bolstering support for Ukraine, part of a larger international effort to assist the country in recovering from the devastation caused by Russia’s invasion, President Joe Biden announced.

During a gathering on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly, Biden joined Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, among other global leaders, to express a strong commitment to assist Ukraine.

"We’re devoted to providing Ukraine with the necessary resources to rebuild even stronger than before… You are not alone in this struggle," Biden declared on Wednesday while launching a joint statement of support for Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction efforts.

Biden and Zelenskiy were scheduled to meet at the White House on Thursday.

Zelenskiy drew parallels to the U.S. Marshall Plan, which aided Europe’s recovery post-World War II, stating, "Today we are constructing the foundation for a similar recovery framework."

This joint declaration has garnered support from over 30 nations, including the Group of Seven major democracies.

A statement prepared by the White House emphasized that Russia bears responsibility under international law for the damages it inflicted on Ukraine. "We assert that, in accordance with applicable laws and our legal systems, Russia’s sovereign assets within our jurisdictions will remain immobilized until it ceases its aggression and compensates Ukraine for the damages caused," the declaration stated.
