China Claims Missile Launch is a Routine and Legitimate Arrangement, According to Reuters

China’s recent launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) was conducted for purposes of weapons testing and training, and is characterized as a routine and legitimate activity, according to the country’s defense ministry.

On Wednesday, China announced that it had successfully carried out an unusual ICBM launch, which involved a dummy warhead fired into the Pacific Ocean. This action is expected to heighten international concerns regarding China’s nuclear capabilities.

During a regular monthly press briefing, a spokesperson for the defense ministry emphasized that China’s nuclear policy remains stable, consistent, and predictable in light of the missile launch. The spokesperson, Zhang Xiaogang, stated that the country would maintain its nuclear arsenal at the minimum level necessary for national security.

Zhang further mentioned that prior to the launch, China had issued no-fly warnings and had notified several countries in advance through military diplomatic channels. He described this approach as indicative of China’s openness and transparency regarding its military activities.
