Moscow Claims G7 Efforts to Isolate Russia Worsen Global Food Crisis, According to Reuters
Russia’s foreign ministry stated on Monday that the efforts by Western nations, particularly the G7, to isolate Moscow have intensified global food shortages.
During a meeting on Saturday, G7 foreign ministers pledged to strengthen Russia’s economic and political isolation, continue military support for Ukraine, and address food shortages resulting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24th.
The foreign ministry emphasized that efforts to sever Russia’s economic, financial, and logistical ties with traditional international cooperation channels are worsening the economic and food crises. They pointed out that the unilateral actions of Western countries, especially those in the G7, are significantly contributing to the disruption of logistics and financial networks for food supplies to global markets.
Before the conflict, Ukraine and Russia together accounted for approximately 29% of global wheat production.
Moscow refers to its military operations in Ukraine as a “special military operation” aimed at disarming Ukraine and safeguarding it from what they describe as fascist elements. Conversely, Ukraine and Western nations deem the fascist claims unfounded and regard the war as an unprovoked act of aggression.
