US Diplomat Blinken Calls Putin’s Nuclear Remarks Irresponsible, Reports Reuters

U.S. Secretary of State Criticizes Putin’s Nuclear Threats at U.N. General Assembly

NEW YORK – U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent warning to the West regarding the potential use of nuclear weapons, labeling it as irresponsible and ill-timed amid the ongoing discussions at the U.N. General Assembly.

In an interview with MSNBC, Blinken stated, "It’s totally irresponsible." He emphasized that global leaders have consistently condemned Putin’s threats about nuclear escalation. He pointed out that even countries like China have previously made their stance clear on this issue. Blinken further noted the inappropriateness of such comments during a time when world leaders are convening to focus on disarmament and non-proliferation.

Putin had issued a warning to the West, indicating that Russia might resort to nuclear weapons if it faced conventional missile strikes. This warning comes as the U.S. and Britain deliberate on whether to grant Ukraine permission to launch Western missiles into Russian territory.
