U.S. Stocks Rise at Market Close; Dow Jones Industrial Average Gains 0.62%

U.S. stocks experienced gains following the market close on Thursday, driven by increases in various sectors.

At the end of trading on the New York Stock Exchange, the index rose by 0.62%, while the other index finished up 0.40%, and the third index increased by 0.58%.

Notable gainers for the day included Dow Inc., which saw a rise of 3.54%, adding 1.87 points to close at 54.71. Caterpillar Inc. followed closely with an increase of 3.41% or 12.91 points, ending the day at 391.16. Additionally, 3M Company exhibited a 2.08% gain, climbing 2.84 points to finish at 139.44.

On the downside, Walmart Inc. faced a 1.82% decline, dropping 1.48 points to close at 79.92. Merck & Company saw a decrease of 1.43% or 1.64 points, finishing at 113.09, while Chevron Corp. slipped 1.38%, losing 1.98 points to settle at 141.99.

Within the S&P 500, Micron Technology led the pack with an impressive gain of 14.73%, closing at 109.88. Jabil Circuit also performed well, up 11.65% to reach 126.65, while Estee Lauder Companies rose by 10.01% to close at 100.78.

Conversely, Super Micro Computer Inc. suffered a significant drop of 12.19%, falling to 402.28. Diamondback Energy Inc. decreased by 6.46%, settling at 168.86, and Targa Resources Inc. dropped 5.94% to close at 146.31.

Among the top performers on the NASDAQ Composite, Fangdd Network Group Ltd. surged 109.97% to 1.07, while Telesis Bio Inc. climbed 71.33% to 3.99, and Alpha Technology Group Ltd. rose 71.16% to finish at 3.68.

On the less fortunate side, Expion360 Inc. fell 23.33% to 0.06, Pagaya lost 22.53% to settle at 9.65, and MDxHealth SA ADR decreased 21.26%, closing at 2.00.

Overall, advancing stocks outnumbered decliners on the New York Stock Exchange, with 1,754 up and 1,050 down, while 94 remained unchanged. On the NASDAQ, 2,083 stocks rose compared to 1,176 that declined, with 150 unchanged.

Caterpillar Inc. reached all-time highs, rising by 3.41% to 391.16. Meanwhile, 3M Company achieved a 52-week high with a 2.08% increase to 139.44. In contrast, MDxHealth SA ADR fell to all-time lows, down 21.26% to 2.00.

The index gauging implied volatility of S&P 500 options dropped 0.26% to 15.37.

In commodity trading, December gold futures increased by 0.40% to $2,695.40 per troy ounce. Crude oil for November delivery fell by 3.24% to $67.43 per barrel, while December Brent oil dropped 2.88% to $70.80 per barrel.

In currency markets, the EUR/USD remained stable at 1.12, while the USD/JPY saw a modest increase of 0.03% to 144.80.

The U.S. Dollar Index Futures declined by 0.32% to 100.30.
