Biden Announces Progress on Lifting Ban for Ukraine’s Use of Long-Range Weapons, According to Reuters
U.S. President Joe Biden stated on Tuesday that his administration is currently “working that out now” regarding the possibility of lifting restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons in its conflict with Russia.
The U.S. has been cautious about supplying or allowing the use of weapons that could potentially strike deep within Russian territory, concerned that this action might escalate the ongoing conflict.
While other allies of Ukraine have been providing weapons, they have imposed restrictions on their use within Russia, fearing that such actions could provoke retaliation, lead to NATO involvement, or trigger a nuclear escalation.
Recent reports indicate that the U.S. is nearing an agreement to supply Ukraine with these long-range weapons; however, Ukraine may need to wait several months as the U.S. addresses technical issues prior to any shipment.
