Fed’s Williams Anticipates up to Two U.S. Rate Hikes This Year – Reuters
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Raising interest rates this year appears to be a prudent decision, and based on upcoming economic data, the Federal Reserve may tighten policies as much as two times, commented San Francisco Fed President John Williams on Friday.
Williams stated, "There is definitely a data stream that could come through in the next couple of months that I would think would be supportive of two rate increases. However, there are also data points we could encounter that wouldn’t support that, potentially indicating just one increase, or none at all."
The outlook on interest rates remains contingent on forthcoming economic indicators.
