TOKYO – Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s upcoming economic stimulus package is set to feature 13.5 trillion yen (approximately $130 billion) in “fiscal measures,” which encompass both direct government spending and loans, as revealed in a draft of the package obtained on Friday.
Scheduled for approval by Abe’s cabinet on Tuesday, the package allocates 7.5 trillion yen for spending by national and regional governments, along with 6 trillion yen sourced from the Fiscal Investment and Loan Programme, which operates separately from the government’s general budget.
The overall figure for the package, which also accounts for public-private partnerships and other financial commitments not classified as direct government expenditures, totals 28.1 trillion yen.
