Russia is Nearing New Bilateral Treaty with Iran, According to Shoigu
Moscow – Russia is on the verge of finalizing a new bilateral treaty with Iran, as reported by state news agency TASS, citing top security official Sergei Shoigu on Tuesday.
Shoigu stated, "We look forward to the imminent conclusion of a new basic interstate treaty. We are completing the internal procedures necessary for the preparation of documents for signing by the presidents."
Over the past two and a half years, particularly since the onset of the Ukraine conflict, Russia has strengthened its relationships with Iran and other nations that are adversarial to the United States, such as North Korea.
The U.S. has accused both Iran and North Korea of supporting Russia’s military efforts, a claim that Moscow refutes. On Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken asserted that Russia had received ballistic missiles from Iran and is likely to deploy them in the coming weeks.
In response, a senior Iranian official denied the allegations regarding the supply of missiles to Russia.
While Russia has expressed its intention for some time to establish a comprehensive partnership treaty with Iran, Shoigu’s remarks signify a significant step towards its realization.
