Agriculture Groups Call on White House for Action Ahead of Potential Ports Strike, Reports Reuters

Nearly 200 agricultural organizations urged the White House to address critical supply chain challenges faced by the U.S. agricultural sector amid the threat of a potential strike at East and Gulf Coast ports starting Tuesday.

The organizations expressed concerns about impending and severe shipping disruptions resulting from the potential work stoppage, along with clogged rail lines and historically low river levels that are hindering grain barge shipments and affecting trade with Mexico.

In their letter, the groups called on the federal government to instruct the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to dredge the lower Mississippi River to maintain 12-foot-deep channels, and to facilitate the movement of grain by rail from the U.S. to Mexico.
