Ex-US FAA Contractor Indicted for Acting as Iran Agent, According to DOJ Statement by Reuters

Former U.S. Federal Aviation Administration contractor Abouzar Rahmati has been indicted for allegedly acting as an agent of the Iranian government, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

Rahmati, 42, a naturalized U.S. citizen residing in Virginia, appeared in a Washington, D.C. court on Friday for his initial hearing.

The indictment claims that Rahmati conspired with Iranian intelligence operatives to secure a position with an FAA contractor and subsequently provided non-public information regarding the U.S. solar energy sector to Iranian intelligence.

Attempts to reach Rahmati for comment were unsuccessful, and there was no response from Iran’s permanent mission to the United Nations in New York.
