Taylor Swift’s Harris Endorsement Gains 9 Million ‘Likes’, Reports Reuters

Pop megastar Taylor Swift garnered over 9 million likes on her Instagram post endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for president, with support from celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, basketball star Caitlin Clark, and Selena Gomez.

After Harris debated her Republican opponent Donald Trump Tuesday night, Swift, who has 283 million followers, announced her support for Harris and her running mate Tim Walz for the November 5 election. She urged first-time voters to register and reported a spike in visits to a voter registration site following her post.

"I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them," Swift stated, praising Harris as a "steady-handed, gifted leader" capable of guiding the country with calmness.

In her post, Swift included a photo with her cat, signing it as "Childless Cat Lady," a jab at Trump’s running mate JD Vance, who previously referred to Democrats in such a manner during an interview, later calling it a sarcastic comment.

Supermodel Karlie Kloss, married to Jared Kushner’s brother, liked the post, while "Parks and Recreation" and "The White Lotus" star Aubrey Plaza echoed Swift’s sentiment in her own post, featuring a cat alongside a "HARRIS WALZ" caption with an American flag emoji.

Elon Musk, a vocal Trump supporter and CEO of Tesla, responded on social media, saying, "Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life." His comment faced backlash, being labeled as "disgusting," "misogynistic," and "creepy."

Swift told her followers, "I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make." She emphasized to new voters the importance of registering to vote.

Praising Walz, the Minnesota governor, Swift highlighted his commitment to LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s rights over the years. Following the endorsement, Walz expressed his gratitude and urged Swift’s fans, known as "Swifties," to take action.

In the wake of Swift’s endorsement, the Harris-Walz campaign announced the availability of campaign merchandise inspired by Swift’s fans, including friendship bracelets.

Trump Dismisses Endorsement

On Wednesday, Trump dismissed Swift’s endorsement, saying he was "not a Taylor fan." He remarked, "It was just a question of time. She’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat. And she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace."

In August, Trump had posted a doctored image of Swift encouraging people to vote for him. Swift referred to this in her post, mentioning how it heightened her concerns about misinformation and the implications of artificial intelligence, concluding that she needed to be transparent about her voting plans.

Opinion polls indicate a tight race between the candidates. Harris, a supporter of abortion rights, has criticized Trump for appointing three Supreme Court justices who were pivotal in overturning the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that established a constitutional right to abortion.

Trump has defended the court’s ruling but stated that a federal abortion ban is unnecessary and that the issue should be settled at the state level. Swift previously supported President Biden in 2020, and many in Hollywood view Harris, a former senator from California, as a representative candidate.
