Iran’s Parliament Speaker: Militant Groups Will Continue to Confront Israel, Reports Reuters

DUBAI (Reuters) – On Sunday, Iran’s parliamentary speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stated that militant groups would continue their confrontation with Israel, supported by Tehran, in the wake of the death of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, as reported by Iranian state media.

The so-called Axis of Resistance, which has been strengthened over many years with Iranian backing, encompasses the Palestinian group Hamas, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, and various Shi’ite armed factions in Iraq and Syria.

Israel claimed responsibility for the airstrike that killed Nasrallah at Hezbollah’s headquarters in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday. Hezbollah confirmed his death but did not specify the circumstances.

Qalibaf emphasized, "We will not hesitate to go to any level in order to help the resistance."

He also directed a warning towards the United States, stating, "The U.S. is complicit in all of these crimes and must accept the repercussions."

In further comments regarding Nasrallah’s killing, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi warned that Israel "will not rest" and underscored that this action would not go unanswered, indicating a precarious situation in the region.

Additionally, Iranian media reported on Saturday that Abbas Nilforoushan, the deputy commander of the Revolutionary Guards, was also killed in the Israeli strikes in Beirut on Friday.
