Tesla Q4 Delivers 405,278 Vehicles, Falls Short of Expectations by 15,000

By Daniel Shvartsman

Tesla announced its Q4 2022 deliveries, totaling 405,278 vehicles, marking a 40% increase from the previous year. However, this figure fell short of analyst expectations, which estimated deliveries at 420,760.

The company also reported the production of 439,701 vehicles, reflecting a 47% year-over-year growth. The majority of these were Model 3s, accounting for over 95% of both production and deliveries.

In the press release, Tesla stated, "We continued to transition towards a more even regional mix of vehicle builds which again led to a further increase in cars in transit at the end of the quarter."

Despite a challenging year in the market, Tesla has shown continued growth. The company faced significant volatility in the final weeks of 2022 amid scrutiny over what it and CEO Elon Musk can achieve.

Tesla’s stock concluded the trading year at $123.18 per share, nearly 200% above levels observed before the pandemic. The latest delivery numbers are crucial for assessing whether Tesla can sustain the growth necessary to justify such a high valuation.

For the full year, Tesla produced 1,369,611 vehicles and delivered 1,313,851, representing respective growth rates of 47% and 40% year over year.

Tesla also announced that its Q4 earnings release will take place on January 25th, followed by its investor day on March 1st.
