Israeli Military Spokesman Announces Expansion of Ground Operations in Gaza, Reports Reuters
JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israeli air and ground forces are intensifying their operations in the Gaza Strip, as confirmed by Israel’s chief military spokesperson on Friday. Reports indicate heavy bombardment of the besieged region, accompanied by a loss of internet and mobile phone services.
"In recent hours, we have escalated our attacks in Gaza," stated Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari during a televised news briefing. He indicated that the air force is actively targeting tunnels and other critical infrastructure.
"Alongside the strikes carried out in previous days, ground forces are expanding their operations tonight," he added, suggesting that the long-anticipated ground invasion of Gaza may be commencing.
Israeli forces have amassed at the border of Gaza, where they have been engaged in a significant aerial bombardment campaign following a deadly attack by the Islamist group Hamas on October 7.
Earlier on Friday, the Palestinian mobile service provider Jawwal reported that phone and internet services had been disrupted due to the extensive bombing. Additionally, a statement from the Palestine Red Crescent Society revealed that they have completely lost contact with their operations room in Gaza and with all teams on the ground.
