Pension Reform Tops Legislative Agenda, Reporting by Reuters

BRASILIA – Speaker of Brazil’s lower house of Congress, Rodrigo Maia, announced on Tuesday that pension reform will take precedence on the legislative agenda, with the potential for approval in both chambers by July.

After a meeting with Economy Minister Paulo Guedes, who is leading the pension reform efforts, Maia expressed optimism that if the reform is enacted, the Brazilian economy could experience a growth of 6 percent over the next year.

Guedes noted that the government is evaluating various proposals for the pension reform, which will ultimately be selected by President Jair Bolsonaro. The minister emphasized that the goal is to achieve fiscal savings of at least 1 trillion reais (approximately $273 billion) over the next decade.
