Israeli Strikes Target Southern Suburbs of Beirut, According to Witness and Security Source

BEIRUT (Reuters) – Late on Monday, at least two Israeli strikes targeted Beirut’s southern suburbs, as confirmed by a security source. Reuters journalists reported seeing flashes of light and hearing loud explosions from the area.

The Israeli military had issued a warning about one hour prior, indicating that specific buildings in the densely populated southern suburbs would be struck. They stated that armed group Hezbollah was using these structures as operational bases and urged residents to evacuate.

In recent days, many residents had already fled the area due to a surge in Israeli attacks, but found themselves sleeping in the streets since available shelters were overcrowded.

Families recounted difficulties in securing taxis to evacuate the district quickly.

On Monday, apprehensions about a possible ground invasion heightened, with Lebanese forces retracting from the Israel border. A U.S. official mentioned that Israeli troops appeared ready to enter Lebanon.
