Activist Claims Draghi Promised to Advocate for Climate Funding at G20
MILAN (Reuters) – Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi assured activists that he would advocate for accelerating the commitment of $100 billion per year for vulnerable nations to address the effects of climate change during the G20 summit in Rome, as stated by Ugandan delegate Vanessa Nakate.
Nakate, along with Sweden’s Greta Thunberg and Italy’s Martina Comparelli, had a private meeting with Draghi on Thursday, prior to his address at the Youth4Climate conference in Milan, where he spoke to thousands of activists.
“I hope Draghi will fulfill his promise,” Nakate expressed during the conference.
Italy, which is co-hosting the COP26 U.N. climate summit in November, currently holds the G20 presidency.
