Air Freight Demand Increases by 4.3 Percent in June: IATA Report by Reuters

Demand for Air Freight Sees Significant Rise in June

Berlin – According to the latest report from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), air freight demand experienced a notable increase of 4.3 percent in June, marking the highest growth rate in 14 months.

However, the report also revealed that capacity expanded at a quicker pace of 4.9 percent, which has resulted in continued pressure on yields. IATA highlighted the need for caution in interpreting June’s figures, especially in light of the ongoing downturn in the cargo markets. This challenging environment has prompted air cargo companies to reduce their fleets and explore new products and partnerships.

IATA’s head, Tony Tyler, noted in a statement, "Global economic growth remains sluggish, world trade volumes continue to trend downwards, and the industry faces heightened uncertainty in the aftermath of the Brexit vote."
