American Airlines Seeks Delay in Resuming Flights to China Due to Low Demand
American Airlines has requested the U.S. Transportation Department to permit a postponement in the resumption of two daily flights to China, attributing the decision to weak travel demand between the U.S. and China, the two largest economies in the world.
Currently, the airline operates a daily flight between Dallas and Shanghai. In its request, American Airlines cited that passenger demand on U.S.-China routes has not rebounded to levels seen before the pandemic and asked for approval to extend a waiver to maintain the suspension of the additional two daily flights.
Other major U.S. carriers, including Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, have also sought permission to continue not operating the majority of their flights to China.
