Armed Men Detonate Gas Tanker Truck in Iran, Policeman Killed: Mehr Report by Reuters
GENEVA (Reuters) – A police officer was killed and another seriously injured after armed individuals detonated a tanker truck carrying liquefied gas in northwestern Iran early Wednesday, according to local news reports.
Authorities were responding to two men at a petrol station in the town of Dareh Garm when the assailants opened fire on the tanker. The subsequent explosion caused significant damage, shattering windows in nearby buildings, as noted by Col. Seyed Ali Mirahmadi, the deputy police chief of Lorestan province.
The reports did not disclose any details regarding the attackers’ identities or their fate.
In recent months, several members of Iran’s security forces have lost their lives in confrontations with militants along the country’s eastern and western borders. Notably, in September, a military parade in the city of Ahvaz was targeted by militants, resulting in the deaths of at least 25 individuals. Both the Islamic State and a separatist group representing Iran’s Arab minority claimed responsibility for that attack.
