Australia Stocks Close Lower; S&P/ASX 200 Down 0.13%

Australia’s stock market closed lower on Tuesday, impacted by declines in various sectors. The main index in Sydney fell by 0.13%.

Among the session’s top performers was Fletcher Building Ltd., which saw an increase of 8.82%, rising 0.22 points to close at 2.75. Whitehaven Coal Ltd. gained 6.63%, up 0.41 points to finish at 6.51, while Mineral Resources Ltd. rose 6.53%, adding 2.40 points to close at 39.16.

On the downside, Tabcorp Holdings Ltd. experienced a drop of 4.89%, down 0.02 points to close at 0.44. Atlas Arteria fell by 4.22%, declining 0.21 points to finish at 4.66, reaching a three-year low. Appen Ltd. was down 3.35%, losing 0.07 points to close at 2.02.

Overall, advancing stocks surpassed declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange, with 593 winners compared to 482 losers, while 467 remained unchanged.

The index measuring the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options decreased by 1.82% to 11.69.

In commodities, gold futures for December delivery decreased by 0.02%, settling at $2,651.90 per troy ounce. Conversely, crude oil for November delivery increased by 1.21%, reaching $71.22 per barrel, and December Brent oil also rose by 1.04%, trading at $73.97 per barrel.

In currency markets, the AUD/USD remained steady, while the AUD/JPY rose by 0.14% to 98.33. The US Dollar Index Futures increased by 0.19% to 100.75.
