Autopsy Indicates Tycoon Mike Lynch Likely Died from Suffocation on Yacht

PALERMO, Italy – British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch tragically lost his life due to suffocation after running out of oxygen, according to preliminary investigations. His body, along with those of his 18-year-old daughter Hannah, a cook, and four guests, was recovered from the family yacht, Bayesian, which sank off the coast of Sicily last month during severe weather on August 19.

Initial examinations of Hannah Lynch’s body produced inconclusive results; while they confirmed there were no injuries or trauma, they did not determine whether she suffocated or drowned. According to officials, the bodies of the deceased, excluding the cook, were discovered in cabins on the left side of the 56-metre (184-foot) yacht, suggesting they may have attempted to locate pockets of air as they were trapped.

Autopsy results for the other victims, including Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer, his wife Judith, lawyer Chris Morvillo, and his wife Neda, indicated that suffocation was likely the cause of their deaths. Of the 15 survivors, Lynch’s wife, who owned the yacht, and the captain were among them.

Examinations of the Canadian-Antiguan chef onboard, Recaldo Thomas, indicated that he likely drowned.

Further forensic testing for all the victims has been ordered, with results anticipated in the upcoming weeks. The incident has baffled maritime experts, who noted that a luxury vessel like the Bayesian, constructed by a reputable manufacturer, should have been able to endure the storm and not succumb as quickly as it did.
