Biden to Visit Germany and Angola: First African Trip as President

Washington – U.S. President Joe Biden is scheduled to travel to Germany and Angola from October 10 to 15, marking his inaugural visit to Africa during his presidency.

Biden’s journey will begin in Germany, where he plans to thank the nation for its support of Ukraine in the ongoing conflict with Russia, among other topics, as detailed by the White House.

While in Angola from October 13 to 15, Biden will meet with President Joao Lourenco. The discussions will focus on enhancing collaboration on mutual interests, including strengthening economic ties and promoting peace and security.

Biden initially intended to visit Angola late last year; however, the trip was postponed due to the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in October. The President has expressed a commitment to establishing closer partnerships with democracies in Africa, especially given China’s significant investments in the region.
